The choir’s longest serving chorister (joined September 1980) Reg Hazell was born on 15 October 1929 at Cardiff and died in Berwick 29 September 2025, just a few weeks short of his 96th birthday. The service was held at St Edward’s Church, Blackburn South, where the choir practises and where Reg and Joyce had spent so many happy years.
The Rev. Bev Smith officiated, and the eulogy was presented by old friend Vaughn Davies.
A large contingent of present and retired choristers led the congregational hymn How Great Thou Art. President Tony Davies spoke about Reg’s unique status as the last ‘original’ member of Victoria Welsh Choir before choral performances of Myfanwy, Cwm Rhondda and the Welsh National Anthem.
As the casket was borne out, accompanied by his six grandchildren, the choir sang Men of Harlech.
