Melbourne Celtic Festival – Seafarers’ Mission

Once again, the choir was at the Festival on the first day to help launch this year’s busy program. Fortunately, we were in a larger space, in the splendid Dome area. Musical Director Rushan Hewawasam and accompanist Mary O’Driscoll were introduced and

the concert started with the rousing Welsh National Anthem/ Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (Land of my Fathers).

The first bracket was all Welsh – Cwm Rhondda (Rhondda Valley), Gwahoddiad (Invitation) and Rhys (Grant me the Peace).

Next was Bendigedig (Blessed) the Welsh version of Robat Arwyn’s famous Benedictus. Then the emotional Anfonaf Angel (I Will Send you an Angel) followed by the rhetorical What Would I Do Without My Music.

Four more languages were added with African Prayer before the prayerful Welsh song Y Darlun (The Picture) and the finale of Men of Harlech.

Judging by the sustained applause from the large audience, our Celtic contribution was very much appreciated.
