On 2nd March our Côr Bach (Small Choir) visited Park Hill Gardens in Mornington to help celebrate the hundredth birthday of one of its residents, Welsh-born Nancy Harradine.
Welsh favourites in our short concert included Men of Harlech (bilingual), We’ll Keep A Welcome, the hymns Calon Lân and Cwm Rhondda (Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer), together with the modern O Gymru (O Wales) and, at Nancy’s own request, the classic song of lost love Myfanwy.
These were complemented by the coal-mining song Working Man (solo Geoff Serpell), You’ll Never Walk Alone (solo Roger Bartlett), The Rose and Amazing Grace. First Tenor Victor Gago also treated us to a rendition of an old classic The Sunshine of Your Smile.
The conclusion of our mini-concert, marked by the singing of Hen Wlad Fy ‘Nhadau, the Welsh National Anthem, was followed by the cutting of the cake, accompanied by a bilingual rendition of Happy Birthday/Penblwydd Hapus. Altogether an occasion which we enjoyed as much as the residents and visitors seemed to.
