“Great mix” “nothing needs improvement” “brought me to tears”
On 5th June Vic Welsh returned to Sandringham after an interval of 15 years. Highlights included our première performance of the Beach Boys’ 1963 hit In My Room, with a solo by second tenor Stephen Lynn, and the return to our active repertoire of Seventy Six Trombones from The Music Man – at what seemed like twice the former tempo! The audience joined us in singing the last chorus of Cwm Rhondda, “Songs of praises …” so enthusiastically that we sang it four times, equalling our record!
Audience comments included:
A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with plenty of variety. It was fun to be asked to participate at times. Wonderful finale with the song from Under Milk Wood*. ~ Rosemary
Brilliant – I love you all. Can’t pronounce all that long name**, but thanks. Blessing* brought me to tears. ~ Marguerite
The performance was very good, there is nothing that needs improvement. My father and his family are Welsh. Thank you for restoring so many memories to me. ~ James
My late husband and I attended your concerts regularly. Your wonderful concert has brought back many golden memories.” ~ Marlene
Great choice of songs and a good mix. (Others said “a great mix” and “the right mix”.)
Lyrics, sound, pianist, cut-offs, uniform, diction, conductor’s direction – all superb!
And from two younger audience members:
“Cool, great and the best kind of Welsh singing I’ve seen. (First time anyway)” ~ Harry
“The best choir I’ve heard. I could listen to you all day. Thumbs up. It could not have been any better (it was the best). I love the long word LlanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllLlanTysiliogogogoch**. It was great.” ~ James, aged ten 🙂
*”Blessing” mentioned by Marguerite was Eli Jenkins’ Prayer (Sunset Poem) from Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas, also mentioned by Rosemary.
** The long name mentioned by Marguerite was spelt out by James.
