Vic Welsh presented our Grand Annual St David’s Day Concert for 2011 at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Saturday 26th February. As usual we joined with the Welsh Church in bringing out a guest conductor from Wales, on this occasion bringing back Robert Nicholls for his fourth visit. Other guests were the ever-popular local folk group Pendragon Dreaming (Pedr Bonnell, Sian Brion, Gawain Keen and Faleiry Koczkar). Choir soloists were Stephen Lynn, Ed Hughes, Roger Bartlett, Stephen Pepper, Bob Ash, Geoff Serpell and the Bendigo Balladeers (Wayne Blandford, Rob Hopman, and Ken Simpson, plus Merle Hopman).
Audience feedback included:
A delightful night, a committed and enthusiastic performance.
A lovely night – I left feeling happy and well.
The mix was delightful. Thanks to everyone involved in the production, excellent.
I love your conductor, watching her control of the choir is a concert in itself.
Lorna the pianist was absolutely fabulous – top marks for her.
A very enjoyable evening – great.
The most professional staging of a concert so far. Congratulations to the solo choristers for an outstanding performance. Great variance of the program from the serious to the humorous. Thank you to the choir and guest performers for a most enjoyable evening.
It was a wonderful night, extremely moving and emotional, fun and very entertaining. Amazing musicians in every way.
It is amazing the variety of musical styles that the choir can bring to the stage so each year is different and yet always enjoyable, please keep it up. I found Rob Nichols a good conductor, but wish he had sung more, what an incredible voice!! Well done everyone, good verve.
A fine performance by the Victoria Welsh Choir. The whole night was most entertaining because of the interesting variety of items. It was a most thoughtful and well presented program.
I enjoyed everything!! The music, the venue, the humour, everything. It was a fabulous night and I will certainly come again.
